2013 Honda Fit EV Review | Price, Interior, Exterior, Engine - The Fit EV is an all electric version of Honda’s subcompact five-door Fit model. Representing Honda’s first effort at a North American-market EV, the electric-powered Fit boasts an EPA-rated combined driving range of 82 miles, giving it the greatest range of any EV. The Fit EV ditches the gas-fed 1.5-liter four-cylinder of the normal Fit for a 92 kilowatt coaxial electric motor derived from the powerplant used in the automaker’s FCX Clarity fuel cell EV. Energy comes from a 20 kWh air-cooled lithium-ion battery pack mounted under the floor of the car.

Three drive modes, Econ, Normal and Sport, tailor the Fit EV’s powertrain to fit a driver’s intended style. Honda is most proud of Econ, which the automaker says can add as much as 17 miles to the car’s range when engaged. To charge the Fit EV, Honda says a 240-volt setup can replenish the battery in just three hours. In addition to the aforementioned class-leading range, the Fit EV also possesses the highest mpg equivalent rating that the EPA has awarded to any EV so far: 118 mpg-e.

Despite accounting for an incredibly small percentage of new car sales in America, the EV is all the rage in California. Rather than starting from scratch and designing an all-new car from the ground up (like Nissan), Honda chose the more economical route and electrified the second-generation Honda Fit. On the surface, the recipe sounds like a slam dunk, since the Fit is one of Honda’s most attractive and most fun to drive models now on sale. To prove to the masses that Honda has what it takes to go green, they flew me out to Pasadena to sample the all-new, all-blue Fit EV.

Before we begin, we should talk about the elephant in the room: California Air Resources Board (CARB) compliance. Some years ago California decided that by 2025 15.4% of all new cars sold in California would have to meet the “Zero Emissions Vehicle” (ZEV) standard. Like any government program, the loopholes, credits and credit trading allowed in the convoluted legislation allow OEMs to sell only a small number of the “required” EVs over the next decade. Strangely the legislation doesn’t require that the vehicle be actually “sold” to the consumer either. Enter the lease-only 2013 Honda Fit EV.

Price of Honda Fit EV :
Price of Honda Fit EV | 2013 Honda Fit EV will be launched on the market in the summer of 2012. For 1 unit of this car, you can buy it at a price of $ 36,625. As already announced, Fit EV production will be limited to 1100 cars available only in select U.S. markets. All will be leased at an estimated cost of $399 per month starting next summer. That’s a shame, because this Fit is good enough to satisfy a larger audience.

Interior Design of Honda Fit EV | To the interior design, interior modifications are more noticeable, such as the revised instrument cluster. In the EV, the rightmost pod houses a large battery-capacity gauge and two gauges that indicate accessory draw: one for the HVAC system and one marked “others” for everything else. In the middle is a digital speedometer with a smaller digital range indicator underneath; below that is a familiar Honda multifunction display. The left pod shows instantaneous energy flow, whether you’re using power or recharging. The Fit EV has three drive modes: econ, normal, and sport. In sport mode, the car’s electric motor unleashes more of its fury, and the availability of that anger is shown in the instrument cluster as an extended band on the power meter.

There is one exclusive exterior color that you can pick. It is called as Reflection Blue Pearl. This car looks different from gasoline edition because of the EV badges. You can find them on the decal and rare hatch. The front fascia is dominated by the presence of chrome accent. It also features the aerodynamic rear spoiler along with 5-spoke alloy wheel.

Engine of Honda Fit EV :
To review the specs of the Fit, its electric motor is derived from the one installed in Honda’s FCX Clarity fuel-cell EV and pumps out 123 hp and 189 lb-ft of torque. The motor is fed by a 20-kWh, air-cooled lithium-ion battery pack made by Toshiba. Range on the unadjusted, highly optimistic LA4 driving loop is 123 miles, but the adjusted EPA range on the window sticker should be closer to 76 miles.
