genesis 2015

Seoul, South Korea–Hyundai has released two renderings of the 2015 Genesis, showing a clear view of the design direction its next-generation sedan will take when it arrives in the United States early next year.

The renderings show the latest version of Hyundai’s design language, now called Fluidic Sculpture 2.0. With pronounced creases and side profile lines, the 2015 Hyundai Genesis evolves into a more stylish and distinctive sedan, replacing the more generic design of the current car, which launched as a 2009 model. The sketches show a pronounced beltline, long hood, short deck, and buffer, more curvaceous fenders.

The 2015 Hyundai Genesis will have a number of new features, including HTRAC, an all-wheel-drive system developed in-house. The 3.8-liter V-6 and 5.0-liter V-8 engines are expected to continue, and they’re mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The design of the new Genesis is a harbinger of Hyundai’s future appearance, and the hexagonal grille and bolder lines will be used across the company’s lineup. The 2015 Hyundai Genesis also gets an increased amount of high strength steel, which increases torsional and bending stiffness. Hyundai added rack-mounted motor driven electric power steering, and claims this feature enhances high-speed stability. Hyundai spent the equivalent of more than $470 million to develop the 2015 Genesis.

The sketches come on the heels of a spy photo that purported to show the 2015 Hyundai Genesis uncovered in South Korea. Hyundai CEO Krafcik previously told us that the car will debut Stateside at the 2014 Detroit auto show in January.
