Levelling the Playing Field – SUVs Becoming More Affordable is a post from: Future Cars and Concept car
SUV models 450x317 Levelling the Playing Field SUVs Becoming More Affordable
SUV models
Not so long ago, SUVs used to be the prerogative of the rich and famous. However, recently things have started to change with car manufacturers trying to manufacture SUVs affordable to larger target markets! The first "breakthrough" in this direction was made in 1989 with the worldwide introduction of the Land Rover Discovery – the first somewhat more affordable 4×4 car. The following decade, things started going downhill until the "democratically-priced" SUV made resurgence in the last decade. Some of the new and popular SUV models may not be as big and versatile as their more expensive predecessors, but they do pack in all the necessary features and electronics associated with SUVs. The best thing about them is their price, of course. Here are just a few of the more new and slightly more affordable SUV models available in the market:
Ford Escape – The Ford Escape has excellent performance, impressive fuel economy & abundant power and is available at an affordable price. Fuel consumption is 22 mpg for city driving and 31 mpg on the motorways. This makes it a good SUV choice.
Skoda Yeti – Although it is named after a snowman, this new car is anything but abominable. The car is lots of fun. Unlike some other so-called "soft-roaders", Yeti is actually quite confident off the beaten track. It is also very comfortable. No wonder it was voted the best under-$40,000 SUV by the Drive Magazine in Australia.
Chevrolet Equinox – The Chevrolet Equinox has plenty of room for passengers and has good gas mileage. It is available at an affordable price too with fuel consumption at 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the motorway.
Honda CR-V – The Honda CR-V is an extremely reliable family vehicle and a compact SUV. It offers a commanding driving position, and a real feeling of security in city traffic with fuel consumption at 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the motorway.
Mazda CX5 – The Mazda CX5 has very good handling and is fitted with an excellent manual transmission for those who prefer the manual over the automatic. It is a family SUV that drives like a sports car. It consumes 26 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the motorway.
Toyota RAV4 – The Toyota RAV4 is a crossover SUV from Toyota. It is comfortable and big, featuring spacious, modular interior and a refined exterior. Fuel consumption comes in at 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the motorway.
Mazda CX7 – The Mazda CX7 is a midsize crossover available with a turbo diesel engine offering superb performance. It manages 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the motorway. It is an agile 4×4 that offers masses of equipment for the money and is roomy enough for all the family.
Volkswagen Tiguan – The Volkswagen Tiguan is another offering by VW to the SUV market and arguable it is the best SUV yet to come out from VW Group. Tiguan is a stylish compact SUV with advanced intuitive systems to make driving safer and easier. It comes with powerful engines and the interior is simply awesome. The fuel consumption comes in at 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on motorways.
Hyundai Tucson – The Hyundai Tucson is Hyundai's entry to the affordable SUV segment. The Tucson is one of the cheapest around. Fuel consumption is impressive too and comes in at 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.
Kia Sportage – The Kia Sportage is the runner up in the Drive Magazine's reasonably-priced SUV category. It is a sophisticated and versatile crossover SUV vehicle that’s aimed at the urban environment yet it embodies a sense of adventure.
This list is certainly not exhaustive and there are other SUVs out there that offer quality at slightly more affordable prices. In any case, look around and explore your options before you make any purchase decisions.

Car Finance – An Easier Way to Get Your New Car is a post from: Future Cars and Concept car

car finance
With financial crisis refusing to go away, fewer and fewer people can afford to buy a car without some sort of financial aid and planning. Though cars have generally become more affordable over time, especially since manufacturers looked to reduce operational costs through outsourcing and production optimization, cars still remain a commodity which for many is out of the reach. In an attempt to bolster sales, most car manufacturers offer the option of a loan agreement as a method of payment. New buyers drive home with their new car, and they pay a monthly premium, often with hefty interest added on top, however. Nonetheless, car loans and finance is the method that accounts for the large majority of sales.
There are two main routes to obtaining car finance; via the manufacturer or via an independent third party.
Car finance is now a key feature and something of an added value, and it is advertised on most car manufacturers' websites. It is a commonplace that a person obtaining a car via car finance schemes does not actually obtain the ownership of the car until it has been entirely paid for. However, to maintain a competitive edge, some manufacturers, Ford for example, offer ownership of the car from the day one, regardless of the payment methods. Procedurally, although things have become more simple online application forms, the process still includes the bulk of the procedures that need to be followed.
Want to know how much it will cost before getting the ball rolling? Most manufacturer websites these days offer a finance calculator, quickly enabling potential buyers to work out their monthly repayments in line with what they can afford. Although, manufacturers do offer a comprehensive list of car finance options, it is the third party independent loan providers that often come out with somewhat cheaper deals.
For instance, in the US, banks offers a range of car finance products including both new and used car loans as well vehicle refinancing. If you feel like you're paying too much each month, the vehicle refinancing tool is an easy and quick online method to see if you could transfer the loan to a bank and gain a better rate.
Companies like Capital One and Ally Financial offer car financing services and in the US and a host of other countries, the comparison of car finance has become a huge business. Buyers seeking the best deals have spawned the emergence of cost comparison sites enabling them to find the best deal on the market quickly and with ease.
For instance, leasecompare.com has been specifically designed for the car finance market, and along with other comparison sites, it is often a regular stop for buyers looking to purchase their new car with some financial arrangements and assistance.
So, the next time you start planning to buy your new car, family car, motorcycle, van, or any sort of vehicle, make sure you have explored all financial options available before you seal the deal.

New Study: Electric Cars Sale Will Hit 1 Million by 2017 is a post from: Future Cars and Concept car
electric cars 450x337 New Study: Electric Cars Sale Will Hit 1 Million by 2017
electric cars
The future of electric cars is big, forecasts a new study. According to Pike Research, at least 1 million electric vehicles will be sold annually around the world by 2017. But is this too optimistic? The bright future of green transport doesn't start immediately, though. Sales of all-electric cars are expected to stagnate for the next few years but 2017 should see the tipping point. At least 1 million electric cars will be sold in that year. By 2020, the market research company expects more than 1.7 million electric cars for sale per year.
Although current sales numbers and public interest are low, Pike Research believes that the second half of this decade will be very solid for electric vehicle sales due to continued research and development of green technology. Increased fuel costs, government incentives and a raised awareness of fuel economy will further aid the mass adoption of electric cars.
"Automotive companies have made a strong commitment to electric vehicles, and their viability as transportation platform is no longer in doubt," says Pike Research director John Gartner.
According to the study, the greatest problem automotive manufacturers have had to deal with are regional differences on demand. In Europe and Asia, for example, buyers favour battery-powered electric cars. In the United States plug-in hybrid new cars are more popular. This means, car makers have had to focus and invest on different technologies while at the same time expanding their gasoline-fuelled vehicles. The automotive industry has been reluctant to concentrate on green cars as they don't want to place all their eggs in one basket. However, they are running the risk of not investing enough resources to create better electric car technologies. Pike Research believes that this trend will change after 2015, but they didn't specify why and how.
The forecast has received mixed reviews. Some car experts say that the numbers are too optimistic. The drive range would need to be extended and fuel prices would need to increase more before electric cars would become the number one choice for buyers. Others argue that the technology is there and it's only a matter of time until plug-in vehicles will sell well.
There is a lot of optimism among politicians and green transport advocates. The European Commission has recently forecast 5 million electric cars on the streets of European countries by 2020. It is creating policies and incentives to spur the growth of plug-in vehicles but the automotive industry sees the ambitions with a critical eye. Volvo's CEO called the predictions "unrealistic" and CARS 21, a pressure group of industry leaders, is lobbying the EU to weaken CO2 emissions.
When viewing the actions and reactions of car manufacturers, it seems that research teams and politicians can forecast all they want but if the industry is not ready to do their part in the equation, the numbers are just optimistic wished-for predictions.
